It’s been one year since life as we knew it took a turn for the worst. We lost loved ones, businesses hit hard, some shut down for good, and our social lives changed dramatically. The good news is that there is a light at the end of the tunnel as the vaccine successfully rolls out. We are all yearning for a sense of normalcy at this point. Hopefully, summer 2021 is our ticket.
Real Estate Marketplace is Hot
If you’re in the real estate business, the silver lining here is that the industry has flourished at levels we haven’t seen in years. The momentum should continue through 2021, with interest rates expected to remain under 3.5% at year-end. As a licensed salesperson myself, I’m excited to see what’s in store for the next few years. But to remain competitive in the real estate game, you need to evolve your strategy, approach, and execution.
The Marketing Industry is Playing Catch Up
I spent the first 14 years of my career in the wild world of advertising in New York City. While many aspects of the business have remained consistent, the advertising industry has seen a great deal of transformation dating back to the Great Recession of 2008. Given the circumstances brought by Covid, this transformation has accelerated.
The Fortune 500 companies that I worked with throughout my advertising career had to abandon their dependence on television. Traditionally, television has been viewed as the most effective vehicle for reaching the consumer. Instead, they now have to invest their marketing dollars into streaming services, digital platforms, social media platforms, influencer marketing, podcasts, eSports, and betting platforms. The list continues to grow. What worked for them in the years leading up to 2020 is just not as effective. They must pivot to remain relevant and competitive.
Why do I tell you this? Like the Fortune 500 companies shifting to other means of advertising, the same goes for the Real Estate industry. Real Estate brokers and agents must rely heavily on a digital marketing strategy to survive in the years to come. Historically, over 85% of agents fail in the first five years in the industry. That failure rate will grow if agents continue to manage their business without a digital-first strategy.
